The popularity of holistic living is increasing in the wake of the growth of organic trends. Those who live this lifestyle grow their own foods for their health benefits and they tend to do this via organic gardening. Read on to glean some new organic ideas in the following article.

When mulching your flower beds, aim for anywhere between two or three inches of mulch. This practice is an easy way to discourage weeds, retain moisture, and add valuable nutrients to your garden. Your flower beds should also look beautiful all year long.

Keep plastic bags handy to cover your muddy gardening shoes. This helps the flow keep going so that you can get into the garden quickly to finish what you’re doing.

Pine can make a great mulch. Some plants do better in soil with high acidity as they are highly acidic themselves. If you have these plants in your garden, keep them healthy by using pine needles as mulch. Using several inches of needles to cover your beds provides acid for the soil as they begin to decompose.

Coffee grounds can benefit many types of soil. Coffee has a lot of essential nutrients that plants need. Plants need nitrogen in order to thrive, so give it a natural source with coffee grounds, then watch everything come to life much more quickly.

Use an old laundry basket to bring your fresh produce in from the garden. The laundry basket can be used as a colander for your produce. If you hose off your produce in the laundry basket, the water will leave the basket through the holes in the sides.

A beer trap can help to eradicate slugs. To create a beer trap, dig a hole in your garden that is the depth of a glass jar, leaving the mouth of the jar level with the soil. Next, add beer to the jar until it’s about nearly full, with somewhere around an inch of space remaining. Slugs will crawl into the jar to get the beer and not be able to get out again.

The more information you have on the subject of organic gardening, the more proficient you will become. Keep in mind that the tips in this article are only intended as a starting point.
